Creative Abductive Inference and Its Role for Inductive Metaphysics

Project A2 of the DFG research group 2495 "Inductive Metaphysics"
Aims of the project: We explore creative abductive inference and inference to the best explanation as methods of Inductive Metaphysics. For this purpose, conceptual and methodological issues are clarified and the role of an abductive methodology within metaphysics is investigated.
Funding body and project life span: DFG research group 2495, 04/2017 - 03/2020
Research assistants: Dr. Siegfried Jaag, Mag. Christian Feldbacher-Escamilla

Statistical Causation, Intervention, and Freedom

Project B5 of the DFG research group 2495 "Inductive Metaphysics"
Aims of the project: Project B5 intends to answer questions and develop solutions to problems concerning human action and freedom in an empirically informed way instead of relying only on intuitions and conceptual analysis.
Funding body and project life span: DFG research group 2495, 04/2017 - 03/2020
Research assistants: Dr. Maria Sekatskaya, Dr. Alexander Gebharter (former research assistant)

Frame representation of Prototype Concepts and Prototype-based Reasoning

Project D01 of the DFG special research center SFB 991 undefined"The structure of representations in language, cognition and science".
Aims of the project: Investigating the probabilistic foundations of prototype frames and reasoning with prototype concepts.
Funding body and project life span: DFG special research center SFB 991, 07/2015 - 06/2019
Research assistants: Dr. Corina Strossner, BA Annika Schuster

Logic and ontology of the cognitive representation of theories

Project A06 of the DFG special research center SFB 991 "The structure of representations in language, cognition and science".
Aims of the project: The topic of this project is the analysis and comparison of the ontological implications of the different methods of theory representation. The central tenet is to explore the ontology of frame-based methods of theory representation with a focus on the ontological status of attribute-values, which will then be compared with the ontological commitments of sentence representations and model representations.
